Tom Bunting is a multimedia journalist and producer studying Journalism and Political Communications at Emerson College in Boston. Tom is passionate about multimedia reporting on politics, media, and social movements. He also likes writing about less important things like movies and video games and technology. Speaking of writing, Tom is currently writing this in the third person and–if you can’t tell–feels very uncomfortable doing so.
Tom has produced video journalism both in the field and in-studio. Recently, he was the Executive Producer on a sixty-minute documentary commemorating the fifth anniversary of the Boston Marathon Bombings. His other video work has varied from field coverage of the 2016 primaries to a live weekly local newscast.
For the 2016-2017 academic year, Tom was the News Director for Emerson Independent Video, one of the nation’s largest student-run media organizations. There, Tom led a team of three hundred student journalists and technical crew members as the organization vastly expanded its field reporting team and web coverage, including a four-hour multi-state live television special covering the 2016 Election and on-the-scene coverage of the 2017 Inauguration.
As a writer and editor, Tom has handled assigning and editing stories from a team of a dozen writers as EIVNews.com’s Politics Editor. He’s written opinion journalism and news articles for a variety of outlets.
Tom has interned at NVXL and the Organization for Economic Development. At both organizations, he worked to develop social media strategies, pitch and produce new video content, and help organize and manage events.
Tom studied photography and filmmaking at Ruth Asawa School of the Arts in San Francisco. His work has been featured on the cover of Umlaut literary journal, and he’s produced photography and videos for organizations on a freelance basis like NVXL, Option Explore, and SOTA World Music.
